Today’s Music: Sting – Brand New Day
I ain’t sayin’ it was a bright idea.
But it was a really really good idea.
So at 7am, Me and my gear and my hangover left the house on 1 Jan 2012.
And at 8 am, on the beach, ready to surf, this is what I saw.
And that’s exactly how I wanted to start the year.
(No, I didn’t surf that well. But on the first day of the year, I was in the Atlantic Ocean on a surfboard. And that’s all I really wanted.)
A beautiful start to any day, let alone a new year. Can’t believe you were in the Atlantic….I’m sure it was a tad chilly! Hope the hangover is settling down with every passing hour 🙂

I think today is the standard I’m going to hold the rest of the year to.

A great standard, we will hold you to it

Thanks John. I’m going to enjoy living up to that.
But as far as surfing, unless global warming comes on a lot faster than expected, I doubt I’ll get back in the water until April.

Bit of an issue even trying up here, ice is really hard to surf, but skating works pretty well.

Well, there’s always ice sailing…

How nice it would be to be in your shoes (or flip flops) – minus the hangover, of course. Tomorrow, I may be in my ski boots or they will wait for Wed. at the latest. I hope it works out as well as your surfing.

Hope it is a great day for skiing by you, WG. I’m hoping to get in a few days this year, but not sure how I’m going to pull it off…

Leaving the house at 7 AM hungover on a January day in New York proves you are either insane, very dedicated to your sport, or filled with an adventurous spirit. (I hope it’s that last one.) Great way to start the year off!

Depending on who you ask about me, you will get yesses for all 3.
It was a beautiful way to start though, and sitting here this evening, seems like the best idea in a while…
Hope all your days are as good (and fun), Brian.

I woke up today and the house was a bluster because our dog has what appears to be a herniated disk. happy new year to us.
Otherwise, it was a great day.

Ouch. I really hope it’s something the vet can sort out. On the other hand, now you have a perfect excuse to sit on the couch all day holding the dog…

Great pic … early morning sun, the ocean, and a hangover … no wonder it was a wow moment.

It really was. Would even have been just as wow without the hangover. (And there would have been less squinting too!)
Thanks, aFrankAngle,

I bet that was fun! I can’t handle cold water, not even on my toes. I’m very sensitive. I’ll take the Texas water in the summer when I get on my board.

Sigh…I miss the ocean. I love NH, but it only sports about 14 miles of rocky shoreline. Not conducive to surfing, I’m afraid.

I would go batty without water access, but you are right in the middle of great skiing and climbing, so…

You are definitely doing something right when you’ve got sun rainbows following you around everywhere! Now it’s just a matter of getting those lollipops on board! (like the song!)

Not so sure brains were involved in this, Kanerva. And once I hit the water, the balls pretty much shriveled up and hid!

Not really sure where you’re at (have to check out your blog more I suppose) but the beach and sun at this time of year makes me miss Key West…
I am in Chicago. I bet you could surf lake Michigan, but you would probably freeze to death.

I’m in NYC, went surfing on Rockaway Beach.
And now that you’ve said it, if it turns out there is surfing on Lake Michigan, I will have to look into a winter surf session there. In a dry suit.
I love Key West, and wish I was there almost every dayNot so much in August, but every other day,,,
Thanks for coming by, Ronnie Libra

January? Surfing? Rockaway Beach? Let’s see…yes, here it is, number 1,597,236 on my list of things I look forward to doing. In fact, since you’ve now done it, I think I’ll just go ahead and scratch that one off my list. Thanks! 😉

WHY do you keep inviting your hangover?!!? You ALWAYS talk about what an a$$hole he is. I say, next time, leave him home to clean up the mess he helped to make the night before.
Happy New Year, Guap!

If only I could. But if it’s left untended, I come home to angry garbled messages on the answering machine, a mess in the kitchen, and often a very confused policeman investigating an “incident”. No, best if it stays with me.
Thanks, ODNT! Happy New Year to you and all of yours!
