A Literary Limerick – Chamber of Secrets

Today’s Music: Iggy Pop – Lust For Life
Days til Spring: 70

I got nothing. Rather, I have all sorts of stuff, I just haven’t written any of it down.
Fortunately, JK Rowling was kind enough to string out a well known series into 7 books and 8 movies.
So while I try and write up Ernie’s visit, or learning to scuba dive, or how beer does not in fact go with everything (don’t pour it into your chicken soup. Trust me.), I can at least – with minimal effort (really, minimal) – continue with my limericky retelling of the Harry Potter saga.

You’re welcome.

Everyone said that it was a secret
But Harry’s interest was piqued
Guilderoy was no help –
At his own shadow he yelped.

But with a phoenix, the basilisk was beated.

If you’ve managed to read this far, feel free to gack in the comments. You’ve earned it!

  1. I can’t comment on the limerick as I’ve never read a Harry Potter book or seen a Harry Potter movie, but thanks for the musical memory. I haven’t heard Iggy Pop in a very long time! Reminds me of college.

    • You now, they really are well crafted books. And the story ages with the characters, getting more complex. Worth checking out if your library has them…
Glad you liked the song though, Sandylikeabeach. Popped into my head after Hotspur’s last post…

    • I’m with Sandy on this one as I too haven’t read any of the book nor seen any of the movies nor had any desires to nor have any desires to write Harry Potter limmericks. Unlike Sandy, I haven’t danced naked in a bar. (I think that’s what she wrote not long ago.)

      • They are delightful imaginative books, aFrankAngle.
And I believe Sandy has danced both in a bar and naked, just not at the same time.
Perhaps you just need some encouragement?

  2. There once was a boy named Harry
Who had a scar from He Who Shall Not Be Named that was scary
    He hooked up with Ginny
Who was his best friend’s sista
And he was then aptly declared a Pissa!

    • Thank you, Jeyna!
I only hope I can keep it up for the next six.
      (But I probably won;t)
      (Shouldn’t even have said something)
      (You’ll all be disappointed)
      (sigh)

  9. I too have never read Harry Potter or seen the movies so alas it is lost on me. However I was interested in the world gack. I was thinking hey, I had forgotten all about that word and was going to comment on gack, but then I realized I was thinking of “grock”. I thought gack was slimey playdough. So I’m not getting anything right today! 🙂

    • I was using Gack in terms of the noise your throat makes before throwing up.
I only know Grok from Robert Heinlein, Stranger in a Strange Land.

I also didn’t know there was a word for slimy playdoh. Or slimy playdoh.
      So I’ve learned something today…
      Thanks, Linda!

  10. Hi,
I thought the limerick was very good. I especially liked the bit about Guilderoy and his shadow, well done. 😀

  11. EG, i humbly offer my modern re-working of the J.K. Rowling opus:

There once was a young lad named Harry
Who thought that he never would marry
    ‘Til he stole someone’s hen
And got thrown in the pen
And met an embezzler named Barry… 🙂

  12. When Harry was still very little
With the restroom he tried to fiddle
Things went out with a bang
    When a basilisk’s fang
Showed him how to solve Voldemort’s “Riddle”

Are you really learning how to scuba dive? That’s cool. My older bro got into that a few years back – he LOVES it. He does the swimming with the sharks thing..he keeps offering to teach me…maybe I should take him up on the offer. But – I’m not messing with any sharks!

    • I got certified about 15 years ago, whiteladyinthehood. Even though I don’t get to dive all that often, I can’t recommend it highly enough. It’s a different world underwater, and it changed the way I look at this one!
And fortunately, the sharks are optional!
Hopefully it will be my next Learning To. That or skydiving.

      • Scuba? Yes. Skydiving? No. Unless you do it nakedly. Just think of the story you could tell your grandkids (or other small children you may tell stories to…just not those you see at the bus stop or in the supermarket).

        • I think the harness would chafe quite a bit on a naked skydive. That being said, I’m sure there are those who have done it.
And if I don;t talk about it at the bus stop, how else will I meet new interesting people?
