Today’s Music: Call Security – The River
Note on Today’s Music: It’s very rare that I’ll get my ass handed to me, and then say thank you for it. But that’s what I’m doing here after Running On Sober did this so wonderfully.
So Today’s Music is from a brand new band I saw this week that may have a great future. And just for RoS, listen to the chorus and you’ll hear a little bit of OMD (listen close starting at 1:01 for it). Then check them out for some more modern *cough*better*cough* stuff.
But my drubbing wasn’t the only thing going on this week! Madame Weebles grabbed me with a vibrant declaration of war. Revis Edgewater started a new serial, and Becoming Cliche became the envy of all PBS fans!
Thanks to them and all of you for a great week of reading around the ‘sphere!
And then there was last week, which asked what if this week’s poll didn’t happen? Here’s what you said. (As always, my comments are present and accounted for in italics.)
I’d find myself ice skating in hell~ Bipolarmuse
(I once found myself in Indianapolis. I’ve had words with me about that kind of thing…)
Simply where’s Guap vacationing. (Frank)
(Hey yeah! I’ll call it a vacation! That’s a much better euphemism for where i’ll be…)
I would get back to being a super hero and catch up on saving people…zannyro
(Curses! I’m foiled again!)
El Guapo would go back to doing what he was doing before…being Batman – Revis
(Hey! Stay outta my underoos drawer!)
learn to knit tea cozies. they are the new Ugg… (UndercoverL)
(I think that’s spelled “augh”…)
An impossibility, so no answer. Wait, is that an answer? (Stacy)
(Sorry, what was the question?)
The week wouldn’t officially end. Polls are necessary for our survival. –Lily In Canada
(*moves polls to Sunday so weekend never ends*)
I’d go scalloping which is what I did today! sandylikeabeach
(You…you do realize there was a poll today…)
It would mean El Guapo turned off his computer and we all disappeared! Linda V.
(the only thing that could be scarier then you all running free is you all being trapped in my head.)
(And not paying rent.)
I’d cry in my coco puffs x, Becca
(Would that make them Boo-hoo Berry?)
I’d figure you went back to the 80’s — in your DeLorean of course! –RoS
(Close, but when I want style, I ride in my Yugo. (1984))
My Friday would just be another Monday. 😦 (poly)
(Take two thursdays and call me on a leap year.)
brickhousechick says she’s have to increase her antidepressant!
(El Guapo has already purchased all of the tequila.)
Bend over & kiss my ass goodbye because the world was probably ending (Weebles)
(Big group here. I hope you brought enough to share.)
B srong, assume the foetus position & suck my thumb – Marie Nicole
(Careful! You don’t know where that thumb has been!)
I’d have to answer a telephone pole or poll. Elyse 54.5
(I have a smart phone. I don’t think it does calls…)
I wouldn’t have to suffer through this foolishness. Twindaddy
(WE HAVE A WINNER!!!)
I would eat my own head… PMAO
(Um…so when I do post, you eat someone elses???)
I’d keep hitting refresh, refresh, refresh, till one turned up. Alex A.
(You know, the definition of insanity is doing something over and ove-…)
I’d get my comedy fix by eating a comedian, BRAAAAINS!!! thematticuskingdom
(Dane Cook is breathing a sigh of relief, knowing he’s safe…)
who knows, that’s too far away to think about. thematticuskingdom
(I didn’t start thinking about this reply til last night around midnight )
we’d hire a PI to find out what happened. thematticuskingdom
(You just want an excuse to run around in Magnum short shorts…)
There is no poll – it’s just me that exists – Rutabaga Solipsistic Mercenary
(I poll, therefore I am.)
That would be stupid. Gawd. GingerSnaaaaaaaaap
(Then it happening is probably a given!)
I would pine away at ma desk, feeling sad and a little depraved actually. Kayjai
(Wait – so it’s the polls that make you feel more depraved?)
Congratulations to Twindaddy for this weeks winning answer! And from the offered choices, the most popular was BRRRAAAAIIIINNNNSSSS!!!! It means something, people. It must…
And so we turn our neon and pleather clad view to this week’s poll, and hopefully that will end it for this bout of 80s mania. There were all sorts of 80s dance crazes: The Moonwalk. Breakdancing. The Electric Side. So this polls asks, what was yours?
Shimmy on down and answer as often as you like. But answer by 24 July, 2359 EST, because that’s when this one ends. (And if you leave an “Other” answer, leave a way to identify you, and I’ll link back next week.)
Thanks for coming by, and to send you on your way, here’s an anthem for the fathers of daughters everywhere.
And I think this is the only appropriate way to bring the 80s madness to a close.
Until next time, of course.
Have a great week, and keep on keepin’ on!
Woohoo!! I finally won!!
And with a perfect answer, too.
Yes …. another win for Cincinnati! Cheers TwinDaddy!
Enjoy your weekend … stay cool!
Right back atcha, frank!
They say a cold front is moving in. Temp should drop to the mid 80s here.
Great poll, Guap and have a great weekend…in this millennium.
Hope you have a great time, in any time!
I do my best….
I’ll stay out of your underwear drawer when you stay out of my head!
Egad! Pleae tell me your head wasn’t in my underwear drawer…
Of course not! I only stick my head in my wife’s underwear drawer. For some reason, she thinks that’s weird….
Long-time reader, first-time voter.
And really dig the song!
They’re pretty good. I was surprised – they were the first of 3 acts in a small venue I was at the other day. Usually that’s a sad slot to get, but they were having fun, the music was fun, and it carried the crowd along!
I feel sad when I see a good song on YouTube with only 25 views. Needs more cleavage and fart jokes, maybe.
Well, to be fair, most things would benefit from those additions.
Consider how many people would tune in for the State of the Union speech.
Welcome! Hootenanies are on the left, Shennanigans on the right, and there’s ice cold diet coke in the fridge.
If you can make your way to the jukebox, no quarters necessary, and there’s a buffet over there, because sometimes the wait is kind of long.
This mixer is super keen!
OMG it’s OMD! Awesome video, Guap. I had a blast with the post–thanks for being such a good sport.
A Yugo instead of a DeLorean? Oh “say it ain’t sooooooo….” (Ready to take on Weezer and the 90’s? Heh.)
Honestly, I’m just glad there wasn’t such a pushback when I took a shot Bowie a few weeks ago.
(Seriously, his fans are crazy!)
You’re welcome here whenever you like, RoS!
Good-bye 80’s…(it was a fun visit Guapington!) Have a Great weekend!
Sadly, no one ever really says goodbye to teh 80s. They just change the radio staion for a little while…
I know, it is sad..it’s called the “oldies” station now…
Ha! My wife is getting tired of me yelling “THAT’S NOT AN OLDIE!” at the car radio when we listen to the oldies station.
“When did Motley Crue become classic rock?!”
Another week has ended & I finally got caught up with all your posts Guaps! I am so proud! And now I need to crash (do laundry, yech!) Have a great weekend!
Hope it’s a good weekend, Benze, and that you get a nap in there too.
No… the 80’s are where music went to die in bad outfits and big hair. There were no good dances… or ‘my penis’… whichever will get me noticed.
Well…have you thought about big hair for your penis?
And maybe a little bowler cap…
Seriously… you have to ask? It has taken all my self control not to do Photoshop pictures of my penis dressed in silly outfits and doing silly things. And that is only because my blog has a responsibility to the future generations of my offspring and their offspring as a place where they can come and find out where their crazy mental outlook comes from if any of them end up showing signs of being at all like me.
Bro, you are badly mistaken. No good dances? How about the Safety Dance (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nM4okRvCg2g)? Or the Bird (http://www.myvideo.de/watch/6116123/Morris_Day_The_Time_The_Bird)? Or the brilliant nonsense of David Byrne and the Talking Heads (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I1wg1DNHbNU)?
Pogo and slamdancing are also creatures of the 80s.
And need I even mention Michael Jackson, Madonna and Prince?
Thank you so much for proving my point!
(Where should I send the psychiatrist bill for the therapy I need after watching those?)
You turn the tide of the turbulent sea (i.e., Life), when even Roxy Music said it couldn’t be done. How do you do that?
Honestly, I attribute it to my inability to ever take myself seriously! 😉
Glad you enjoyed this one, Stacy.
Someone call security and get these guys outta here! And get me some Q-Tips to clean my ears out… Sorry dude. But whoa was that bad! I couldn’t stop it fast enough. What did they slip in your beer?
Wow! I’m actually expecting some great music from them if they stay together.
Might be that I was under the spell of their live performance magic…
Seeing someone live does make all the difference in the world: you are so right. Sometimes all it takes is watching how someone is on a stage, the dynamics between the band mates, or even how they interact with the audience.
Waahh! What an uncool vision to have on this heat wave day. 🙂 The very idea just raised the temperature a notch higher than 96 degrees. 🙂
Aw, how can anyone not like 80s dances? 😉
I’m going out to get myself a perm and some shoulder pads now. 🙂
Can we meet at Orange Julius at the mall later? I need to go and pick up more friendship bracelets.
Lol!! I’m still laughing about “The White Mans overbite (It’s still popular)! ahahah! Oh and my beloved Pee Wee! Naturally the very first trick we taught my grandson was Pee Wee’s Tequila Dance. Also I just remembered from watching it just now that the shoes he was wearing were just like a guy used to wear back in the 70’s I worked with. He was an architect from Czechoslovakia — only they were orange! Ah memories!
Ah! the Foolishness! Such a great way to start my morning! 😀
For that alone, I hope the parents got you a “Best Grandma Ever!” shirt.
Now I want a pair of those shoes for work…

I can’t believe it took waiting until Sunday to enjoy my Friday Foolishness! I hate when reality gets in the way. 😦 Hope you had a great weekend!!
Reality is overrated.
Except for lunchtime.
That’s pretty good.
I can’t wait to show the Daughter Song to Cap’n Firepants!
I bet he works in something to do with turning suitos into fish bait!
Again, my whole name didn’t fit in the poll, so look out for “lily in” and know that it’s just me.
Lol and now I just noticed that I mentioned the moonwalk in my response and you already mentioned it in your post. Why am I so dumb?!
Not dumb at all.
Anything I could say sound much better with your modified US/UK/Canadian accent!
This is the first time at your site here and I am laughing at the great comments in the post! I’ll be back for more laughs soon 🙂
Thanks Christy, and welcome!
The fun I have on my friday polls heavily outweighs the effort of putting them together.
I probably Electric slid to the moon and back back in the day.
I tried it at least once. Any sbsequent attempts were probably blotted from memory/
