Today’s Music: The Cult – Sanctuary
Note on Today’s Music: Saw tehm last night. They did all of Electric, then another hour. Good show. The opening band, White Hills, SUCKED!!! and did over an hour. fMeh.
I day, you day, because all day, it’s Friday!!! Yeah, I didn’t get enough sleep this week. Because I was too busy reading blogs! Here’s some of what I saw…
Rarasaur told us about bedtime stories. GingerFightBack returned to the early days of train travel (tales).
And moreissuesthantimemagazine gave me a Sunshine Award! (Maybe because I’m trying to invent cold fusion using Cheerios and Scotch.) You should check her out. I’ve really been enjoying her posts!
But before you do that, let’s consider what made up last weeks poll, which asked us to consider what made up the blue plate special. Here’s what you said.
(As always, my comments are smothered in italics.)
Making a comeback 🙂 Andro
(I think we’d prefer if it made a “go away”.)
A laxative in disguise, eat wisely or else? 😦 Andro

Garnished with it… shhhhh 🙂 Andro

Being stolen at this very minute, oy come back or else? Andro

A big warm bun and a huge hunk of meat. (Goes with your shirt!) RoS

(Soylent green is- Oh, thought you said “from” somebody else…)
Better not be a unicorn 😦 Anja
(No, that’s the soup du jour.)
Congratulations to Quirky for this weeks winning answer! And from the offered choices, the most popular was a tie between these polls, in edible form. and BRRRRAAAIIIINNNSSSS!!!! (Editors note: I always get a kick when this answer fits. Even when it is a little…creepy…). So thanks for equating These Polls and Brains!!!
I enjoy doing these polls. I think they’re better than sliced bread! But that begs the question, what else is better than sliced bread? This week, that’s what we want to know. This one closes at 2359 EDT, 28 Aug, so get your answers in by then. (And if you leave an “Other” answer, leave a way to identify you, and I’ll link back next week.)
Which means that now we’re into the wrap up section.
And to send you on your way with a smile, here’s some Carol Burnett and Vicki Lawrence, doing what they do best – making each other laugh.
Have a great week everyone!
P.S. – I don’t know that this is “funny”, or even all that interesting. But I got a kick out of it, so I figured I’d tuck it in down here.
Happy Friday Guap!! Once again my Friday begins with a big smile. 😀

I loved “Mama’s Family”, though I wish there had been more Eunice and a little less Iola.

I liked Carol Burnett, and couldn’t understand how I liked a show my parents did too (besides Star Trek).

I’m starting to get hungry for that blue plate special now. I loved the Mama’s family clip. It makes me want to watch them all again. One of my favorites is where they are playing Sorry.
And that Cheers clip, it reminds me of the I Love Lucy episode where Little Ricky is learning to play the drums using that same beat and Lucy cracks eggs to it. Oh maybe I can find it. Yup here it is:
Thanks for the wonderful a FF time Guap!!

The show was at roseland Ballroom (52nd btween 7th and 8th).
Surprisingly, they didn’t sell out the show – room holds about 3300. They filled all the empty spaces with sound though. Lots and lots of sound.
I think I broke my ears.

Did you ever hear Linda Ronstadt’s album of rock songs sung as lullabies? She included ‘We Will Rock You’ at a much slower beat, and it was lovely.
With all the muck on the gazillion channels of television today, its sad when you think Carol Burnett still resounds as pure comedy brilliance.

Carol Burnett and Vicki Lawrence – two of my favorite comediennes, back in the day. I used to do impersonations of their characters for my mom when she got home from work. Cheers just doesn’t compare.
I don’t have an answer for sliced bread. I’m just not that clever, so I’ll stay out of the poll this week. I’m sure you’re relieved. ❤

The Cult–that takes me back. Glad they put on a good show–they seem like a band that would either rock live or be terrible. I’ve never even heard of that opening band, but then, in all the concerts I’ve seen, I’ve never seen an opening band that later got huge (I saw NIN open for Bowie, but that doesn’t count, because they were already big). Many moons ago, I saw a band open for Shane MacGowan that SHOULD have been big, but split up not long after I saw them–the Murder City Devils. They had something special. They’ve since reformed, but it’s not the same.

I saw a band called Marah (since imploded) that opened for Steve Earle. Blew him off the stage.
Opening bands should love Shane McGowan. Saw him twice. Once he was three hours late. Opening band could have had the run of the place.
On the other hand, it was Shane Mcgowan (saw him with the Popes and the Pogues), so he still would have blown them off the stage.
LikeLike
I should have known you’d be a Shane MacGowan man. I’ve seen him four times, I think, never with the Pogues.
HOWEVER, I saw the Pogues in LA waaay back in 1991. Shane MacGowan was kicked out of the band after I bought my tickets. The show went on, though, with Joe Strummer taking MacGowan’s place. It wasn’t the same, but still, JOE STRUMMER! They played London Calling, and of course the guitar, base and banjo players joined him in that iconic wall of guitars–BUH-BUH-BUH-BUH BUH-BUH-BUH-BUH.
Also, from the ‘God’s got a funny sense of humor’ department: Did you ever imagine that Joe Strummer would die at 50 while Shane MacGowan lives on to get new teeth?
