Friday Foolishness – Reflective Edition

Today’s Music: Blondie Love At The Pier

I can feel it. Can you feel it? Friday at last! And what a week was the week that was. Here’s some of what I saw…
Bill (Practicing Resurrection) wrote a great thought provoking piece on good and evil, that I’ve been pondering since I read. Tikk Tok told me an important story I haven’t seen at all in the news.
And on a lighter note, Maddie Cochere has returned to the sphere!!! (With a great post on writing too.)
Hope you find as much in their posts as I find in all of yours every week.
Congress
But despite all the sublime wisdom out there, sometimes there still needs to be foolishness. And that was best expressed with last weeks question, What should the fools politicos do for work.
Wow, did your answers make great campaign platforms! Here’s what you said. (As always, my comments are blather senselessly in italics.)

2 year olds with temper tantrums (that’s the way they are acting) Benzeknees
(But 2 year olds will grow up and learn.)
They don’t work without a shutdown, so nothing will change for them. – Revis
(Couldn’t they have just called in sick instead?)
they’d be carpenters asking which is better: to cut off your legs at the ankles, knees, or thighs. Oh wait… xxliveclay!
(There’s a Jesus joke in there. Appropriate, considering how close politics and religion seem to be…)
Zombies… A typical day at the office then? πŸ™‚ Andro
(I don’t think politicians would know what to do with brains…)
Lemmings… That’s one way of getting rid of them πŸ™‚ Andro
(Don’t think they’d be able to agree on a cliff to jump off…)
Toilet Cleaners, well it beats talking a load of sh… Andro
(“Cleaning up messes” is not what they’re known for.)
Stand-In-Chimps πŸ™‚ Andro
(Are they intelligent enough for that?)
Magician’s Assistants (It might be fun seeing them cut in half or disappear)
(They already made all the money disappear…)
All of the above! (Stacy)
(Politicians seem to do best on the bottom.)
brickhouse says, All of the above plus cleaning my toilet.
(Gov’t is shutdown and now you want to put Mr. Clean out of work too?!?)
Asphalt pavement. Elyse 54.5
(Giving new meaning to “Dip In Road”.)
Ohio truckers who collect crap from chicken farms. That’s what WE smell from DC!
(You obviously haven’t been letting them lead you down the primrose path…)
appendixes – they already know how to be useless. thematticuskingdom
(I always thought they were more like that thing hanging in the back of your throat.)
tonsils, for the same reason. thematticuskingdom
(Whew, I was worried you were going to stick it to vestigial tails.)
Corn Dog Assemblers because they are so good at sticking it to us Linda Vernon
(They could sell them at the circus. After their shifts in the Freak booths…)
the bags that hang behind horses during parades. thematticuskingdom
(I thought those were Baton Twirlers?)
zombie character actors – they already play the part. thematticuskingdom
(No, zombies eat brains. Politicians discard them.)
janitors – to clean up their own shit. thematticuskingdom
(But they’re so much better at flinging it around.)
Going door-to-door to collect for UNICEF and keeping the money. (UndercoverL)
(When the gov’t reopens, they’ll have a committee study that idea.)
Making a calendar of photos of their dick pics. (UndercoverL)
(Nono, those are called Head Shots.)
Miley Cyrus’ back-up twerkers!- Le Scarp
(YES! I can’t be the only one who wants to see Boehner and Reid in glittery gold lamΓ© onesies!)
(Can I?)
(Guys?)
(GUYS?!?)

TP! (words&otherthings)
(How many sheets does it take to wipe out a country)
Who Cares? I am from Canada SnB
(Well, that’s not very polite – which means WE HAVE A WINNER!!!)
Bloviating idiots for hire – Republicans are 2 for 1! Rutabaga
(HEY! What’s that suppo- Oh…thought you said Blog-iating…)
Personal care attendants at hospitals and care units Kayjai
(They prefer the term Bedpan Manipulation Specialist.)

Congratulations to SnB for this week’s winning answer! And from the offered choices, the most popular was Hookers. (They’ve been whoring themselves since their first campaigns). So congratulations to all of you who are familiar with that kind of thing!
Regret
This week, it’s about what you could have done…what you might have done…what you shouldn’t have done…[insert philosophical musing here]. So dig deep, and answer as appropriate. But do it before by Wednesday, 16 October, 2359 EDT, because that’s when this one ends. (And if you leave an β€œOther” answer, leave a way to identify you, and I’ll link back to you next week.)

As Halloween approaches, I hope you find this Trading Candy guide useful (and if anyone knows whose blog I saw this on, I’d appreciate letting me know so I can credit them with the find.)

And lastly, this is a promo for the remake of Carrie, and it’s kind of funny. Enjoy.

That about wraps it up, until we meet again. Have a great weekend!

  1. The TK coffee shop video was AWESOME…loved the looks on everybody’s faces. So wish I could do that…*sigh*…have a great weekend, Guap!

  2. Thanks, Guap. That thing has my hearts in knots, still. I cannot believe it’s being ignored. It’s been long enough now that it seems like that’s the only real explanation. Even people in neighboring states haven’t heard about this.

  3. MONKEES! And tequila! And I’ve cream!

We should lock congress in a room with all 3 of the above until they come to a decision. Although thinking more about that, they may never come out. Never mind. Happy Friday!

  5. Love the people who suggested our Congressholes pose as useless organs. And thanks for highlighting other bloggers’ work every week–love finding new sites that way!

    • Useless organs are more helpful than congress. You can at least grind those up and sell them as aphrodisiacs…

Hey, if I’m going to read hundreds of blogs, why not share them!

  9. Ay! Congress is like Penelope, constantly making and unmaking laws and stuff but for a much less noble purpose. πŸ˜‰ .

  11. Foolishness! Exactly what I needed now. My exercices are killing me. And somewhere deep inside I regret studying Russian now.
Why am I doing this to myself? *dramatic face*

Unfortunately there are quite some things to regret, but nothing that can’t be fixed with a baseball bat ;).

  15. Wow! Lot’s of good stuff here today. The Blondie song was new to me, and both videos were crazy fun. It’s a great day, and hubby says we are drinking tonight! πŸ™‚ Thanks for the shout-out, Guap!

  19. The trading candy video brought back my most traumatic childhood memory.

Halloween 1963. Our family moved that day/night (my parents were brilliant — trick or treating meant no need to shell out for a babysitter). We moved into a house that was thought to be haunted. And my halloween candy disappeared. I am not making any of this up.

It was only 30 or so years later that my brother Fred owned up to having stolen the whole bag. But he did share a few of his candies with me.

    Thanks Guap.

  20. Oh man, that Baton Twirlers comment made me laugh… my consciousness was suddenly invaded by a bunch of old women in nylons and sequin suits with Shriner hats, twirling behind horses. Ha! Loved “wipe a country out” too… I don’t know how you find the time to come up with these — not just quantity, but brilliance! Have a great one, as always, and thanks for adding the F to Fridays. xx

    • Ha! You should have seen the other list of potential things to be behind the horses!
Fortunately, the Baton Twirlers are still one of the safe targets for jokes!

  22. LOVE the videos this week! My kids watched the coffee shop one, but I especially loved the candy one. Great! Maybe by next week, the shutdown will be over. Sigh. Have a great weekend, Guapo!

    Like

    • See, I’d have thought the kids would be more interested in the candy one, at least so they could understand the parent tax!

No hope yet on the shutdown. Maybe they’ll hire scabs soon?

The candy trading video was hilarious!! (and the Carrie one was, too! I loved the construction guy’s reaction). I’ve had a helluva long week – soo glad it’s Friday. Thanks for the laughs, Guapo.

  24. I put the telekinetic one in one of my posts too. Pretty good one. If I saw that in real life, I would immediately suspect a trick. I’ve just seen too many tricks. Not to mention, what’s the endgame? Books out, tables moved, guy down… 80% of people are not done drinking their coffees… what do they do next, bow? Yes they do. They kneel before ZOD!

I forget where I was going with this. No, not the bathroom.

  26. Thanks for the nod EG. I have to say, of all the posts I’ve written, that wouldn’t be one I’d have expected might get a mention on Friday Foolishness. Glad you liked it.

I’m glad you posted the Carrie video. I’ve seen it posted on facebook lately but hadn’t watched it. Seeing it on your blog convinced me that it must be worthwhile. And it was great. The looks on the faces of the customers were priceless.

  28. Dude,

That ‘Carrie’ promo is such the brilliant promo. As a New Yorker, you know full well that every single one of those prank victims will go see the movie. JUST because they fell victim to the scare..
As far as your Congressional take on chimps. You sir… are banished to the Bronx Zoo, tomorrow morning. Toots sweet. And once getting there,.. you must throw bananas and all other manner of good stuff (Mets tickets?) to those well mannered peeps who suffer on bad hair days jokes, fused with orthodontic cautionary warnings.
    Bring it handsome.

    Like

    • Fortunately, Mets tickets are exceptionally cheap this time of year.
At least they faltered early enough this season instead of the usual “doing well…doing better…DOING GREAT!!!…Oops. There are the Mets i remember…”

  34. I love the suggestions for what the politicos should do, but why wasn’t “Go *&%$@# yourself” one of the choices?

I don’t have to worry about tequila-based regrets. I haven’t let that foul liquid touch my lips in over a decade. Brr. I still get the shivers. I don’t drink hard liquor any more, except for the occasional bloody Mary or a couple shots of whiskey when I’m sick. I’m more of a natural guy–you know, herbs & such.

Blondie is awesome. She (Debbie Harry) was my first celebrity crush. I got the opportunity to see her for the first time last year. Pretty cool.

  39. Loved the videos, Guap. As for the politicians, they are a piece of work, aren’t they. Hard to describe what kind of work, but dirty jobs abound. I think they would be standing back trying not to get their hands dirty, and paying someone else to get theirs dirty instead while they drank coffee and watched on. Great post. πŸ™‚
