Friday Foolishness – Leather and Spandex Edition

Today’s Music: Train – Save Me San Francisco
Note On Today’s Music: Not a big Train fan, and the song has nothing to do with the post. But it’s a fun song and a fun video, so I thought I’d throw it in.

Well, that was a fun week. Started bad, got a little better, got ridiculously hot, and now it’s on the verge of finishing. Thank. God.
We had our new overlords in from overseas, and they did not make life easier. On the bright side, I sent out a resume for a position I’d like to get, so hopefully I’ll get a call from them.
The upshot is that I wasn’t around the ‘sphere near as much as I wanted to be. Most of the posts I managed to read I did in my email. But there were still some great ones.
Sights N Bytes told a story about a possessed guitar. Adair put up a perfectly named post about random stuff. Though it could also have been called “Ear Wax and Why We Love It”.
And more thoughtfully, ShoutAbyss put up an excellent post about the NRA that doesn’t have the usual vitriol a topic like that inspires.

Thanks to them and for everyone else out there. You guys put up wonderful posts that remind me there are better things to do than work too hard, and I thank you for it!

Hard to remember, but it was just last week we were discussing death. Specifically, the thing that doesn’t kill you.
And boy, did you guys have some strong opinions. So here they are, your responses to last weeks poll, What doesn’t kill me…. (As always, my comments are immortalized in italics.)

Better run!

Congratulations to sandylikeabeach for her life affirmingness! And of the offered choices, the most popular was “had better pay my bar tab!”. Damn right. It’s the least it could do.

Last weekend, my girl and I made it to see The Avengers. And it was a lot of fun! Personally, I thought Bruce Banner had the best scenes in the movie. And can someone explain to me what Natasha’s super power is? Other than not sweating all over herself while encased in leather and fighting like a tornado, I mean.
Following that line of thought, I started wondering, what would a good superpower be?
Which brings us to this weeks poll.
Dream big, fellow Asylumites! But dream it soon, because this poll closes at 2359 EST, on 28 June. Leave a way to tell who you are in the write-ins, and I’ll link back to you next week.

So there you have it. And to keep the foolishness rolling a little longer, these are for your entertainment.
This is from the pre-finale fight near the end of the Avengers. Without seeing the whole movie, it’s not as good, but I thought this was one of the best bits.

And for those of you that lament the lack of spirituality on this site, I give you Reverend Jesse Jackson.

Have a great weekend, y’all. See you when I see you…

  2. Thank goodness someone else said it. I said to Chris after the movie, “What exactly does Black Widow have to offer besides her sexual appeal and ability to shoot a gun?”
I answered my own question in there it seems. 😛
“HULK SMASH” is my fave, too. He always has been. That was my favorite show when I was a young girl.

    • I remember Bill Bixby and Lou Ferrigno too! watched that every Friday (though it was mostly to pass time until Dukes of Hazzard was on).
      What?
the “Puny God” bit at the end had the theater I was in in stitches.

  3. Holy cats it’s hot here too right now. Happy that it’s due to cool down a wee bit this weekend. And happy that my office is nicely centrally air conditioned, even if my apartment doesn’t cope so well with its wall units……I’ll keep my fingers crossed for the work position you’ve applied for. Hope the overlords don’t get your heckles up too much! I know how that can be. I’m drowning in work up here, but should be able to calm things down a wee bit over the next week or so. Very grateful for your Friday Foolishness to allow me some temporaryrelief, haha!

    • We’re having the same weather, Britky (has a nice ring to it!) The rain that’s threatening should wash all the humidity away and set up a nice weekend.
Hoping you catch up on your work and get some time for your self, and at the very least, have a great weekend!

  6. Hi,
A great answer by sandyofthebeach, well done. 🙂
I also thought The Avengers was a great movie, it was a lot of fun to watch. Did you see the first movie, the lead up to The Avengers, Captain America – The First Avenger ? It was a real surprise, a lot better than I thought, a fantastic movie as well. 🙂

  9. Have you ever noticed that that guy from Train has the biggest head in all of rock music? It’s like something from Easter Island. I can’t listen to (or watch) them based solely on that. But I take your word for it that it’s a fun video! Happy Friday!

    Like

    • I actually didn’t notice that in this video, Laura. I was too busy wondering what the hell was on his feet on the performance parts of the video.
Now though, whenever someone says something about Train, my first words will probably be “Oh, Easter Island head?”

  10. It’s a fun movie, for sure. Bruce Banner definitely gets the greatest audience reaction – ya gotta love ’em. I’m gonna think long and hard about which of my super powers to reveal, I have so many, hard to narrow it down to just one. : )

  19. Natasha’s super-power is bad acting. I enjoyed the Avengers as well, I also thought Bruce Banner (and his computer-generated alter-ego) stole the show.

Good luck on the application. It’s always easier to find a job when you’ve got one. Would you still be working in the City?

The next thing I’m gonna do is check out that NRA link. I don’t know which side it takes, but a lack of vitriol?–this I’ve gotta see.

    • Something about Banner’s line in that clip, “I’m always angry”, just jumped out at me and stuck in my head.
the position is based in Manhattan, but would include going to satellite offices in all 5 boroughs.

Good luck on new job. I know it’s not much fun when the big wigs are marching around. I noticed on last weeks poll lots of people with stomach issues and stress. Funny last week my blood pressure was high but my stomach was fine. I guess stress effects people in different ways. Hope the next week will be less stressful for all. That would be nice.

  23. Hahah Linda Vernon’s made me laugh! That was an excellent poll! The Avenger’s was pretty awesome. Natasha didn’t really have a power, but then again neither did Captain America. He just had a shield! Same with Iron Man and his body armor. And Thor and his hammer! Like, did any of them have actual powers besides Bruce?

Just for the record, so you don’t decide not to see it or something. It’s not a bad flick; it just has a really depressing ending. My bad, since I probably should have figured that out (before going to see it) based on the title alone…
