Today’s Music: John Fogerty – Fortunate Son
Note On Today’s Music: Great tune, great performance. The end of the video is just an awful lot of clapping though (about a minute).
We’re nearing the end!!! (Yeah yeah, keep your cheers down. Sheesh.)
July 31st is Harry Potter’s birthday, so I thought that would make a fitting day to finish this Limer-ep-ick
For those who haven’t been keeping up, I applaud your restraint and good judgement. For those of you who have been following this from the beginning, this limerick marks the retelling of the sixth book of the Harry Potter series.
Oh, the woe! The angst! The humanity!
Harry, nearing the end of his educational career, is thrust into a more responsible role as a fighter against he who has no nose.
If you’ve read the books, this will make no sense to you at all.
If you haven’t read the books, this will make no sense to you at all.
If you haven’t read the limericks, go to the Limerick tab above the banner. At your own risk.
hehehe
Sirius had gone through the veil.
In Dark Arts, Snape threatened Harry with “Fail”
But Harry did more
Hangin’ with Dumbledore.
If only he’d built the balcony a rail…
Only two more to go!
You are going to make me pull a stitch. This is a perfect summary. 🙂

Darn it – I knew these limericks would eventually put someone in the hospital.
Thanks Mel!

As soon as I get done with re-reading the Hobbit, I will start on my very first Harry Potter book, I swear! Then, perhaps these will make sense to me? Maybe?
LikeLike
Ummm…maybe?
Let me try to make sense of these first and I’ll let you know, Ginger. But the books are fun to read.

Guap you’re cheating. You’re doing the movie version. There’s only one more book to go. One book. Two movies.

Wait – I’ve trashed meter, shown no respect for the syllable/rhythmic requirements of the Limerick form, and have shown little to no courtesy to the books, and that’s where you get upset with me, Elyse???
Besides, I’m adapting the books. Perfectly acceptable to string it out for a bit more profi- er, entertainment value. It’s not cheating. It’s artistic license!
(And congrats – you’re the first one to actually say anything about that)

Your limerick is wonderful and summarizes Harry Potter perfectly. Both the book and the movie. The limerick is perfect for both, actually. And it captures the fun of both.
But you gave yourself away by saying there were two more. But I still love you Guap.

I really appreciate your Reader’s Digest version of Harry Potter. I find your limericks to be far superior to the books, and such a time saver!!
I LOVE Fortunate Son – I was just listening to this a few days ago. John Fogerty always feels like summer to me. Not sure why?

Thank you, Lisa – glad you’re enjoying the series!
Might be Fogerty’s Centerfield that makes you think of summer. He plays a bat-shaped guitar in concert for that one.
Or just the bayou feel of all his stuff…

Love these limericks! I only ever saw the first HP movie, and haven’t read the books, so it’s hilarious getting the low-down on them all!

Thank you Brit! I’m enjoying seeing how badly I can mangle them, but still (sort of) stick to the stories.

Poor Harry…Dumbledore falling to his untimely death and all! LOVE the limericks! Well done…

Shouldn’t that be poor Dumbledore, kayjai?
And someone should sue the architect that neglected the railing.

Dumbledore, being all-knowing, knew he had to die and prepared everyone for his demise…everyone but Harry. Harry had to witness his death…the death of the only male mentor in his life (besides Serius, but he kicked the bucket early too), so yeah…in my eyes, poor Harry. And the architect sucked as well, but he was probably following orders. Or he was a house elf getting back at so many wizards for his oppression…. 🙂

lol wait that was a really good one. I barely remember any of the movies, but for some reason your limerick reminded me of the big, important parts. Right on!

Dumbledore DIED? OMG, nice spoiler tag KJ. By the way, Bruce Willis is a ghost. Jeez. Ruin the movie for everyone.
In other news:
There once was a wizard named Harry
Who had trouble with the ladies
As much as he did
He still ended up
With Ginny Weasley at the end

Despite the book being a huge series (pagewise), it’s nice that it only really has the one end. Unlike many fantasy epics.
And the Titanic sinks at the end of Titanic.

Duh. What you might not know is that Titanic was a REAL SHIP! OMGWTFBBQ!

Yep. the movie was based on the yacht DiCaprio bought with the millions he made in The Island.

You are correct. Being a person who hasn’t read one line from a Harry Potter book nor seen any of the movies, I’m clueless about this. Oh well … that means Good Job Guapo!

That’s ok Frank. I read the books and saw the movies.
Heck, I wrote the limericks too!
And I’m still clueless about all of it…

Back when I was financially incapable of such a thing, I dreamed of placing a bounty on the head of J.K. Rowling.
My young pups loved her tales, so this young father did his due diligence. I provided the narration in order to breach their slumber, night after laborious night.
They were fun books to read, to myself. Not so much when I was called on to navigate the clumsy clod of names, places and things out loud. Then it became a filibustering tedium, a literary servitude. It became, hell.
I can’t be all downer here, so’s I gotta say. I love that Fogerty spill.

As someone who has never read Harry Potter, I assume when you say ‘Sirius,” you mean subscriber-based radio.
And did Fogerty do a different version of “Fortunate Son?” I only know the Credence Version. Yes, John Fogerty wrote all the songs (I think he did), but the way he excludes the other three dudes in that group is pretty shameful. They had to watch their own Rock & Roll HOF induction from the audience.
LikeLike
It’s still pretty much the same version. I think Fogerty’s age and experience adds something to later performances of the song.
The brothers Fogerty really didn’t like each other by the time they broke up. And the court battle over the songs dragged on for years. Don’t quote me, but I think when his brother passed away, John’s reaction was something along the lines of “good riddance”.
Ah well…
